Artist’s Statement

I get antsy when I’m not making something, whether it’s a garment, sweater, cake or piece of art. l love exploring the possibilities of expression in fiber, painting, pastels, and more recently, ceramics. I took a community ceramics class on a whim and it opened up for me a new, less restricted world of creation and the opportunity to develop unused skills. My many years as a painter in the film industry have sharpened my love of realistic details, intricacy and how things are affected by time and nature.  I’m fascinated by the solemnity and elaborateness of objects of religious devotion and seek to imbue my work with the same air of mystery. My inner journey and the dreamworld have long been important to me, as has exploring the complexity and fragility of nature. Growing up in the psychedelic 60’s and groovy 70’s fostered my predilection for bright colors and kitsch, and humor often finds its way into my work.
