ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
Julie Kim The first-prize winner of the prestigious Banff String Quartet Competition and multi prize winner of the Evian International String Quartet Competition, violinist Julie Kim began her career with the acclaimed Franciscan String Quartet. As the resident Quartet at Dartmouth College, the Franciscan String Quartet toured extensively in Europe, Canada, and the United States.Ms. Kim participated in prominent international festivals, including Aspen, Yale’s Norfolk, and Banff. At age 16, she was selected to attend the New York String Seminar led by Alexander Schneider and perform with Isaac Stern and Yo-Yo Ma at Carnegie hall and the Kennedy center. She studied with an unparalleled roster of quartets, including Tokyo, Julliard, Cleveland, Emerson, and Vermeer String Quartets. Graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory and Yale University, she studied with David Able and was a Wardwell Fellow at Yale University with the Tokyo Quartet. A coveted Bay Area violinist, Ms. Kim played extensively with the San Francisco Opera (28 years), San Francisco Ballet (25 years) and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. She also performs with The New Century Chamber Orchestra, the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, the San Jose Opera, and Concertize, famous for their Candlelight Concerts. As a member of the Skywalker Sound Orchestra, she records for major movies, video games, and soundtracks. Ms. Kim accompanied The Three Tenors, The Eagles, The Who, Barbara Streisand, The Game of Thrones touring concert, Andrea Bocelli and Matteo Bocelli, and performed Broadway shows, including the South Pacific, La Boheme, and The Producers, to name a few. She is the 1st violin section coach, Chamber Program Director and a Board Member with the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra and coaches many prominent California youth orchestras, including the Golden State Youth Orchestra and San Jose Youth Orchestra. Ms. Kim is a sought after Bay Area teacher with a private studio in Walnut Creek where she resides with her husband Douglas Taylor, Head Electrician at the Golden Gate Theater.
