TBD QUARTET

Tonights Concert will feature Mario Guarneri, Erik Jekabson, and Jeff Cressman on trumpets, Jonathan Seiberlich on tuba, John Wiitala on bass, and Akira Tana on drums. Performing works by Golson, Gesualdo, Le Juane, Monk, Roger Kellaway, and Mario Guarneri.

TBD–a quartet featuring Mario Guarneri and Erik Jekabson on trumpet and flugelhorn, with Akira Tana on drums and John Wiitala on bass, plays their music in a linear way, creating implied harmonies, and stretching traditional forms.

The original music we perform was written with this particular. instrumentation in mind, and has been created since the group began playing together. Also the band’s original compositions often grow from a small idea and are developed by all of the members of the group. In this band, the line is the most important element, and it determines the direction and expresses the emotion and story of the music As for the name tbd? tbd can be ‘to be determined’, reflective of the improvisational nature of the group, and/or ‘trumpets bass drums’, reflective of the instrumentation of the group,
