High School singers are invited to audition for the Throckmorton Youth Performers A Cappella Ensemble under the leadership of new choral director, Sue Bohlin. This ensemble is an advanced chamber choir for singers in 9th-12th grade. This group of singers will learn and perform vocal music from a variety of genres, including world folk, broadway, contemporary choral, and pop/rock. The ensemble will have several performing opportunities at the Throck, in the community, and beyond.
Singing experience is necessary (current participation in your own school chorus is strongly encouraged). Rehearsals will generally be on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 at the Throckmorton Theatre.
Susan Elisabeth Bohlin, enjoys a full musical career as director, conductor, composer, accompanist, vocal coach, theory instructor, and freelance symphony keyboardist. Her most recent commission â€śI Made It (You Can Fly)â€ť for the Vivace Youth Choir was premiered in San Jose last May. Four of her choral works are published at Alliance Music (TX) and Santa Barbara Music Publishing (CA).
Along with her husband, Robert Geary, Sue is a recipient of a Founderâ€™s Award from the Piedmont East Bay Childrenâ€™s Choir, where she is Associate Director of the Performing Dept. and with whom she has toured to over twenty countries since 1985. She also currently works on staff at Campolindo High School in Moraga and free-lances with numerous other Bay Area arts organizations.
Ms. Bohlin has conducted, recorded, or prepared musicians for CDs, opera, symphonies, musicals, theater, film music, TV commercials, YouTube ads, digital software recording, and has worked with some of the worldâ€™s leading conductors including Esa-Pekka Sallonen, and the late Lorin Mazel. She founded and conducted the Anchor Bay Childrenâ€™s Choir for a decade; was music director and performer with George Coates Performance Works Theater in San Francisco for another; previously taught oboe at Mexico Cityâ€™s Conservatory of Music and played oboe in various orchestras there and in the states. She graduated from the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific and continued music studies at Escuela de Vida y Movemiento at UNAM (Mexico), Holy Names University, and most recently, the Jazz School in Berkeley.
